Sadly, I must report that due to the spike in coronavirus cases both locally and nationally the Palladium has chosen to cancel all live performances for the time being. In October, when we returned to limited live performances following a complete shutdown in March, our pledge to our audiences was[…]
The three talented gentlemen who perform together as La Lucha are familiar faces at the Palladium. They do concerts of their own music, and the trio or various subsets thereof are side men on lots of Palladium gigs. So it’s only appropriate the Palladium played a big part in the[…]
I’m excited to have one of my favorite bay area bands back on our stage this Friday night. Have Gun Will Travel joins Geri X and Will Quinlan on the Hough Hall stage for a night of original music. With Have Gun you get a genre-mashup of Indie, Americana and[…]
There’s a very special guest coming to the Palladium this Sunday to perform live with our favorite local trio – La Lucha. Ken Peplowski is arguably the best jazz clarinet player on the planet. He was part of the musical team on La Lucha’s new CD – Everybody Wants to[…]
The Palladium is back both live and virtually. And the world is taking notice. Please check out this story by veteran music writer Eric Snider. He wrote it for Arts Coast Journal, an on-line magazine produced by Creative Pinellas and edited by Sheila Cowley. Thanks to them for this great[…]
Our new Palladium Live series brings your favorite Palladium artists directly to your home or anywhere you take your laptop or I-Pad. If you’re as smart as my wife, you’ll be able to mirror your computer screen on your smart TV and watch the same way you watch Netflix. Our streaming provider, Mandolin,[…]
As we reactivate the Palladium after more than six months of virus-imposed darkness, we are moving on several fronts – live shows, a streaming service and the creation of an artists’ support project we’re calling the Palladium Creative Class of 2021. That initiative puts money directly into the pockets of[…]
We’ve had two great Saturday nights at the Palladium as we continue with our very limited October reopening. The final October show is this Saturday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m. Perennial Palladium favorites Nate Najar and Phill Fest will trade licks on their acoustic guitars, in a show our[…]
After six months without much entertainment news, the reopening of the Palladium is drawing some media attention. I’m sharing links to a few really nice stories and an Zoom interview I did for the St. Pete Catalyst Sessions. If you missed any or all of these, they’ll give you[…]
The Palladium’s October reopening – three Saturdays in a row – started off with a bang last Saturday. Our new favorite blues man, Jose Ramirez, released his Here I Come CD, with a memorable show featuring his band and several special guests. Jose brought guitar legend Anson Funderburgh and[…]
I’ve been talking with blues guitarist and singer Jose Ramirez for more than a year about a CD release show. Now that show is happening! After more than six months without shows, we’re reopening the Palladium with Jose’s CD Release celebration for “Here I Come” on Saturday, Oct. 3,[…]
After a six-month hiatus due to the pandemic, I was worried whether our audiences would be ready to buy tickets again when we reopen the Palladium for live shows on the first three Saturdays in October. I don’t have to worry about that any more. Our three reopening[…]
As we take some small steps to our reopening on Oct. 3, we want our patrons to know we are taking their safety very seriously. Below are specific details about the safety of our shows, what we expect from patrons and what they can expect from us. There is also[…]
If you’re like me, you’ve missed seeing and hearing all the live shows at the Palladium and other arts and entertainment venues in our creative city. But like me, I think you’ve been willing to give up the joys of live music in an effort to avoid exposure to Covid[…]
While we’ve been dark at the Palladium since March 13, we haven’t been idle. One of our quarantine projects will debut in late September, when we begin streaming live Palladium Presents shows. We’ve added great cameras, lens, and other equipment to bring you an at-home concert experience that will[…]
This Friday, Sept. 5, at 10 p.m. WUSF All Night Jazz and The Palladium at SPC present the second edition of our monthly series called “Side Door at the Palladium.” This new partnership brings some of the Palladium’s best concerts – recorded in the Side Door Cabaret before the[…]
The bad news arrives in my email cue every day. Today’s email was from Columbia Artists Management, one of the industries longest-standing agencies representing musical artists. “It is with a heavy heart that, having endured a prolonged pandemic environment, we must announce that effective Aug. 31, 2020, Columbia Artists[…]
It’s exciting for me to see how my colleagues at other arts organizations are finding ways to move forward and continue to be relevant during this dark period for live performance. The Palladium’s longtime partner, St. Petersburg Opera, is a shining example of how to stay on track when[…]
We are making plans to reopen the Palladium on a limited basis but we are not in a rush to set an opening date. Our plan when we reopen is to present Side Door shows, jazz, blues and comedy, in Hough Hall. We’ll sell 150 – 175 tickets and[…]
I’m continuing our series of brief conversations with some of our favorite Palladium performers. Today I’m talking with Damon Fowler, who is without a doubt a local guy who made good. The kid from Brandon has his own kids now and along the way he’s played and recorded with[…]
I’m continuing our series of brief conversations with some of our favorite Palladium performers. Today I’m talking with sax star Jeremy Carter. Jeremy has been part of the Palladium family for years and his “Soul of Jazz” shows have drawn sell-out crowds. He’s also been part of the James[…]
Dr. Tonjua Williams, the president of St. Petersburg College, has shared a letter this week about the events in Minneapolis and college’s commitment to “diversity, equity and inclusiveness” in these dark and emotional times. Her letter was addressed to the students, faculty and staff at SPC, but I think[…]
I’m continuing our series of brief conversations with some of our favorite Palladium performers. Today I’m talking with the world-renown bluesman Selwyn Birchwood. Selwyn emerged from the Tampa Bay and Orlando area in 2011 and has grown into a blues star, touring the world and playing major festivals. His[…]
I’ve missed a lot of things during this forced shutdown and at the top of that list has to be seeing and hearing the great performers that are a part of the Palladium family. It is these folks, who rely on shows like ours for their livelihood, who have borne[…]

Palladium volunteer Virginia Fox wants to make it perfectly clear from the beginning – she can’t sew. “I didn’t know anything about that part of it. But I’m a doer. And I knew I had to do something. And I love to organize and market things.” So when[…]
Without William R. (Bill) Hough it is safe to say there would not be a Palladium Theater. Without Bill Hough so much that we love about St. Petersburg would not be here. Bill was a visionary and at times a risk taker. He bet heavily on his adopted home[…]
I know a place like the Palladium is more than a building or a business. A music venue like ours is a gathering place. It’s like a family home, where our patrons, staff, performers and volunteers come together for special occasions. Sometimes in the hustle of a busy season,[…]
Saturday morning I tell my wife, as horrific international disasters go, this one at least fits my personality. I’ve always wanted an excuse to stay home and putter around. To linger over the morning paper (on-line), play a few songs on the piano, whisk some leaves out of the pool,[…]
A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Like other venues around our community and around the country, the Palladium has suspended shows and events for the time being in an effort to keep our patrons and our staff safe and healthy. Some shows are canceled, others are being rescheduled for[…]
Gotta love this story from St. Pete Catalyst by the veteran music writer Bill DeYoung. Bill previewed our two upcoming Palladium Cabaret Series shows – March 21 with Queenie and March 26 with Nellie McKay, both in the Side Door Cabaret. Queenie, Sydney Australia’s star of cabaret and theater,[…]

The 2020 version of the Boogie Woogie Blues Piano Stomp is on stage this Saturday night and the show promises to be our biggest ever. More than 600 folks have already got their tickets to see an all-star lineup of pianists playing our two grand pianos on the Hough Hall[…]
One of our favorite jazz singers, Whitney James, has been out of circulation for the past year, as she completes an advance degree in music in Texas. But she didn’t want to miss her annual Jazz Valentine concert, so she’s hopping a plane later this week headed for the[…]
Chris MacDonald’s introduction to the King of Rock and Roll, came from watching old Elvis movies on TV with his Mom, who was a fan. “Elvis was cool in those movies – he beat up the bad guys and had cute girls in bikinis chasing him – it looked[…]
For me and a lot of my pals, the best band to come out of our area in the ‘80s was The Silver King Band. A trio of talented folks – St. Petey Twig on barrelhouse piano, Flo Mingo on washboard, and Rock Bottom on harmonica. They were an R&B[…]
When I visited New York as a journalist in the ’80s and ’90s I always stayed at the historic Algonquin Hotel, home of the Algonquin Round Table. I stayed because the hotel was close to where I was working , but mainly I stayed at the Algonquin because I loved[…]
We’ve got two nights of great jazz coming up this weekend in the Side Door and more on the way. On Friday, Jeremy Carter, everybody’s favorite sax player, is back with another jazzy tribute to great soul standards. He’s calling this one: Daydreaming: Soul Jazz with Jeremy Carter. […]
The Calidore String Quartet played some of their first concerts on the Palladium stage. That’s when they were all students at the prestigious Colburn School in Los Angeles. The concerts were a homecoming for Ryan Meehan, the violinist who grew up in St. Petersburg, where his family still lives. […]
