The Palladium Theater’s March Lineup Features Iconic Vocalist Synia Carroll Paying Tribute to Nina Simone, An Immersive Night of Burlesque, Grammy Winning String Trio Time For Three, The Listening Room Festival Showcase, and Women of Jazz XVII For Women’s History Month

February 24, 2023 (St. Petersburg, FL) – The Palladium Theater at St. Petersburg College is renowned for its exceptional history of showcasing top-notch performers, both established and emerging. The theater’s March program boasts an impressive array of talented artists, including Grammy-winning string trio Time for Three (TF3) and jazz vocalist Synia Carroll. Her performance, Nina On My Mind, will pay tribute to the legendary Nina Simone and renowned local photographer Herb Snitzer. Notably, the theater will also feature A Classic Night of Burlesque, an exclusive showcase of the Listening Room Festival, and the 17th annual Women of Jazz performance to celebrate women’s history month. Thursday, March 2 • 7:30 PM 
Nina On My Mind

Vocalist Synia Carroll pays tribute to Nina Simone, the iconic singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. Nina’s music spanned classical, folk, gospel, blues, and jazz styles. Synia is joined by Paul Gavin (drums), James Suggs (trumpet), John O’Leary (piano), Brandon Robertson (bass), and Mark DeRose (percussion).

The late photographer, Herb Snitzer, was a friend of Nina’s and captured her in some legendary photos. The Palladium honored Snitzer, a St. Petersburg resident, in 2020 with the first Palladium Jazz Award ever presented. His jazz images, including some until now unseen Nina photographs, will be projected before and during the show.

A Classic Night of Burlesque, Vol.3

Back again by popular demand for its third show in the series at the Palladium, ND Theatricals is excited to bring a night of classic entertainment and burlesque to Tampa Bay! Step into a theatrical time machine, and you’ll be transported to an era of glitzy showgirls, hilarious comedians, masterful musicians, and a singin’, jokin’ emcee. Nathan Daugherty, the founder of ND Theatricals, directs and produces this show with live music by The BurlyBandits.

This is an immersive, full-scale burlesque and comedy show, just like they did back during the turn of the century when Burlesque was in its heyday. The performance will include striptease, goofy old-timey jokes, and semi-vulgar banter! This show is not suggested for patrons under 18, and parental supervision is advised.

Defying convention and boundaries, Time For Three stands at the busy intersection of Americana, modern pop, and classical music. To experience Time For Three (TF3) live is to hear Western music’s various eras, styles, and traditions fold in on themselves and emerge anew. 

Bonded by an uncommon blend of their instruments fused with their voices, Ranaan Meyer (double bass, vocals), Nicolas “Nick” Kendall (violin, vocals), and Charles Yang (violin, vocals) have found a unique voice of expression to share with the world.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Women of Jazz returns for its 17th year in the Palladium Side Door. Featuring: Valerie Gillespie, saxophone, vocals, and leader; Judi Glover, piano; Jennifer Medina, bass; Belinda Womack, vocals; Theo Valentin, vocals; Ona Kirei, vocals; and Jean Bolduc, drums.

Guest vocalists from past concerts will also make an appearance: Lorri Hafer; Rose Bilal (originator of the “Women of Jazz” concerts, which were presented by the ADTBJA and sponsored by JAZZTORIAN). This concert is presented by the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association and The Palladium.

America’s favorite folk ensemble, The Tamburitzans, returns to share song, music, and dance from around the world. The Tamburitzans exist to preserve and celebrate international cultural heritages through artistic performance while awarding talented performers with scholarships to Pittsburgh-based universities for their contributions and dedication to the arts. For more than 80 years, the Tamburitzans have delighted audiences around the globe.

Experience the hyper-realistic sights and sounds of what a Queen concert was like in the early 1980s, filled with all of the many hits, incredible vocals, stories about Queen and the songs, costume changes, and high-energy sing-along songs that will lift you off your seat! 

Lead Singer and Welshman Martyn Jenkins fronted the European Touring Queen show “Night at the Opera” for years, playing for The Queen Fan Club and performing for Brian May and Roger Taylor. The band also features Chris Kinder on percussion, well known for playing, touring, and recording music for Jon Oliva, the mastermind behind Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

3, 2, 1, LET’S JAM! You’ve never seen storytelling and high-octane jazz come together like this before! Cowboy Bebop LIVE is a complete multimedia experience highlighting the story of the critically acclaimed anime Cowboy Bebop on the big screen with live music by the Bebop Bounty Big Band. 

This 14-piece jazz ensemble features world-class musicians with members from the World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Franchise, and Walt Disney’s Main Street Philharmonic. Travel the solar system with anime’s most iconic soundtrack at Cowboy Bebop LIVE!

Maxim Galkin

After sold-out concerts in Israel, Baltic countries, and worldwide, comedian, impressionist, parodist, singer, and humanitarian Maxim Galkin is coming to Florida for his first-ever concert in the Tampa Bay Area! St. Petersburg Opera: Beethoven’s Fidelio
Tickets: Reserved $15-$95

Beethoven’s only opera has captivated audiences worldwide with its themes of justice, freedom, and the power of the human spirit. Leonore, whose husband Florestan has been imprisoned by his political rival, the villainous Don Pizarro, is determined to rescue him. Leonore disguises herself as a young man named Fidelio and gets a job in the prison, earning the trust of the jailer, Rocco. As news breaks that a government official is visiting the prison to investigate rumors of cruelty, Don Pizarro decides to execute Florestan. Will Leonore be able to save her love from certain death?

Featured performers include Kirsten Chambers as Leonore, Alexander Boyd as Don Pizarro, Erik Kroncke as Rocco, and Hanna Brammer as Marzelline. This opera will be performed in German with English translations above the stage.
