O Som Do Jazz recaptures the spirit of 1960s-70s Brazilian Bossa Nova, samba jazz, MPB, and Baião. The sextet features Rio de Janeiro singer Andrea Moraes Manson and an international crew of jazz musicians playing the Great Brazilian Songbook of Tom Jobim, Edu Lobo, Gilberto Gil, Marcos Valle, Baden Powell and others.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
O Som Do Jazz (the sound of jazz in Portuguese) recaptures the grace, energy and spirit of 1960s Brazilian music. Imagine Brazilian musicians in love with American jazz playing in Rio de Janeiro nightclubs circa 1965 – and you get an idea of what O Som Do Jazz is about. The group has four CDs, original music placed in television shows on HBO, BBC, Fox and two Global Music Awards. Musicians include Andrea Moraes Manson (vocals), Alex Malkovich (sax), John O’Leary (piano), Alejandro Arenas (bass), Mark Feinman (drums), and David Manson (trombone/arrangements).
ABOUT EMIT
For over twenty-five years, over 500 events involving new music, jazz, world music, interactive electronics, improvisation and interdisciplinary art forms that incorporate sound have been featured in the EMIT series. EMIT (a registered nonprofit arts organization) brings adventurous music and educational activities to the Tampa Bay area. EMIT is presenter of the annual St. Petersburg Jazz Festival, Recording Arts Program with Boys & Girls Club students at the Royal Theater in Midtown, EMIT Latin Jazz Fest and supporter of the 18-member Helios Jazz Orchestra.
