Vocalist Synia Carroll pays tribute to Nina Simone, the iconic singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. Nina’s music spanned styles including classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz. Synia is joined by Paul Gavin (drums), James Suggs (trumpet), John O’Leary (piano), Brandon Robertson (bass), and Mark DeRose (percussion).
The late photographer, Herb Snitzer, was a friend of Nina’s and captured her in some legendary photos. The Palladium honored Snitzer, a St. Petersburg resident, in 2020 with the first Palladium Jazz Award ever presented. His jazz images, including some until now unseen Nina photographs, will be projected before and during the show. Herb will be remembered in a short ceremony at intermission.
