TB Times calls the Palladium Chamber Players “stunning;” Final concert is Wednesday, April 23

One of my personal highlights this season has been the success of our Palladium Chamber Players series. We sold almost 110 season subscriptions and we’ve drawn large, enthusiastic crowds. But most importantly, the music has been magnificent.

 

If you haven’t attended a concert, there’s one more this season on Wednesday, April 23 at 7:30. Works by Beethoven and Dvorák are featured. Our core ensemble will be performing: Jeffrey Multer, Danielle Farina, Edward Arron and Jeewon Park.

Jeffrey Multer and company will perform the last concert of their chamber music series Wednesday at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg.

 

Make no mistake about it, the Palladium Chamber Players are outstanding. The concert I attended in March featured world-famous violinist James Ehnes, who joined them to perform the Chausson Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet.

 

But as equally stunning as Ehnes’ performance was that of pianist Jeewon Park, a core member of the ensemble. There was nothing simple about the piano part, and Park did it all with mesmerizing expression. The audible sighs of the woman sitting next to me about sums it up.

 

Multer, concertmaster of the Florida Orchestra, started the chamber ensemble because he saw a need for more intimate and accessible musical experiences in the bay area. Violist Danielle Farina and cellist Edward Arron, who round out the quartet, both fly in from New York along with Park.

 

There’s not a weak link in the group. If you went to both of the concerts so far, you heard each of the players featured in a piece for a subset of the ensemble. For this concert, Multer will be showcased when he plays Beethoven’s Spring Sonata for Violin and Piano in F major. This work frequently makes it into recording compilations of the best of Beethoven’s works and the best of classical music in general.

 

Also on the program is the Spanish-flavored Quartet for Piano and Strings in A minor by Joaquin Turina and the lively Quartet for Piano and Strings in E-flat major by Antonín Dvorák.
