Our friends at St. Pete Opera are back at the Palladium with an extended, “five-show” run of Bizet’s grand opera, Carmen. The show opens tonight.
Show dates are Friday, June 6 at 8pm; Sunday, June 8 at 2pm (SOLD OUT); Tuesday, June 10 at 7:30pm; Friday, June 13 at 8pm; and Sunday, June 15 at 2pm
Before the show, I suggest you check out the Arts Alive Podcast from the St. Pete Catalyst. Bill DeYoung interviews Sishel Claverie, who plays Carmen, and opera artistic director and conductor, Mark Sforzini.
A New York-based mezzo-soprano, Claverie, talks about bringing the seductive Carmen (one of opera’s most notorious femme fatales) to life. The native of Mexico has assayed her before, in productions across the globe, but this is her first-ever show with St. Pete Opera.
Sforzini talks about not only Carmen itself, but the cast of professional singer/actors who are working hard to bring this massive undertaking to vibrant life.
