I stopped in the Mahaffey Theater Thursday evening for the first (annual?) Besties Awards, presented by the folks at Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, the local tourist development shop. I thought I’d mingle a bit, enjoy the free drink coupon, and slip away.
But no, this was a very fun night and I was still there at the end. It helped that the live music – played before and after each award – was by The Black Honkeys. They matched classic soul numbers to awards like Best Beach, Best Brewery, and Best Restaurant.
And the big finale was the release of the new Gulf To Bay Magazine, published in partnership with the Tampa Bay Times. More than 90,000 copies of this very slick pub will be distributed in targeted communities around the country. In many, it will arrive tucked into the Sunday New York Times.
And your favorite music venue, The Palladium, is inside in a music section called Find Your Jam! Here’s what they said:
“Across town, the Palladium is a stately setting for everything from rock to opera, and its Side Door Cafe (okay, we call it Cabaret, but let’s not be picky!) is a popular jazz and blues venue and incubator for top local artists.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself! Thanks to David Downing and all the folks at Visit St. Pete/Clearwater for a great mention and a great event. Hope it returns next year!
