NYTimes features our chamber series special guests – Calidore String Quartet

It’s never too early to get excited about our Palladium Chamber Players upcoming season. I was particularly energized last Sunday when I picked up the blue wrapper with the Sunday New York Times rolled up inside.

It’s always my favorite part of Sunday morning:  a home-made latte, an easy chair, and the Sunday Times. I start, as I always do, with the Arts & Leisure section. Since the cover was just a single image, I quickly turned to Page 2 and almost dropped my coffee.

The top photo in the “Week Ahead” section was of the group playing our series on Wednesday, Feb. 5 – The Calidore String Quartet.

This phenomenal young quartet has played our stage before. Ryan Meehan, one of the violinists, grew up in St. Petersburg and his parents are active supporters of the Palladium. We always knew they were great. And in recent years, Calidore has risen to the top tier of young chamber groups. They’ve won competitions, earned major residencies, done an NPR Tiny Desk concert,  and so much more, including this Sunday’s lovely notice in the Times.

They are playing the “Summer Evening” series produced by the Chamber Society of Lincoln Center in Alice Tully Hall on Wednesday. The Times called the quartet “charismatic.” And in previous reviews they’ve said even more nice things.

You’ll hear more about our Palladium Chamber Players as we roll out our subscription series and our individual ticket sales. Concerts (always on Wednesdays) will be Dec. 11, Jan. 8, Feb. 5, March 25, and April 15.

Stay tuned for details on all the shows, but I couldn’t resist sharing the good news about Calidore!
