When we tell you that the performers in our Young Artists concerts are about to be the next big thing – we aren’t just tossing hype. Violinist Caroline Goulding, who played here in 2011, is returning this fall as a featured soloist for the Florida Orchestra. Hahn Bin, the violinist in make-up and mohawk who was also part of our 2011-12 season, is a full-fledged star. He even changed his name to Amadéus Leopold, so he’s now the artist formerly known as Hahn Bin.
And last January, our chamber music audience was wowed by the young Calidore String Quartet. Calidore features Ryan Meehan, who grew up in St. Pete, where his Mom still lives. Ryan and his fellow players study at Colburn Conservatory of Music in downtown Los Angeles. This week the group signed a contract with Opus 3 Artists – one of the best agencies in the classical music business.

Opus 3 Artists Signs the Calidore String Quartet
Opus 3 Artists is thrilled to welcome the Calidore String Quartet, one of the most exciting young ensembles to emerge on the chamber music scene in recent years. The international prize-winners are noted for their fiery brilliance, breadth of musicianship, and palpable energy that engages audiences. Formed at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles in 2010, the Calidore String Quartet has presented recitals across the United States and Europe to great acclaim.
The Calidore String Quartet has been recognized by international juries for its technical mastery and compelling musicianship. They have captured top prizes at the 2012 ARD Munich International String Quartet Competition and the 2012 Hamburg International Chamber Music Competition. Nationally, the Calidore String Quartet has won the grand prize in major chamber music competitions, including the 2011 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the 2012 Coleman and Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competitions and the 2013 Yellow Springs National Chamber Music Competition. Their European performances were broadcast on radio stations in Munich and Hamburg as well as on German national television in a documentary produced by ARD public broadcasting.
This summer, the Calidore String Quartet makes its debuts at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and at the Ravinia Festival. Other summer highlights include a residency at The Banff Center and participation in the Banff International String Quartet Competition and a fellowship to the McGill International String Quartet Academy (MISQA) in Montreal.
Highlights of the quartet’s 2012-13 season included their New York debut on the renowned Schneider Concert Series at The New School for Music, a collaboration with Quatuor Ebène presented by the Colburn Chamber Music Society, acting as as a Fellowship Quartet at the Aspen Music Festival and School, and their European debut at the venerated Emilia Romagna Festival in Italy. Other season engagements included a return to the Laguna Beach Music Festival and recitals throughout New York, Virginia, Maryland, Florida and Southern California. The quartet is currently a featured Young Artist-in-Residence with American Public Media’s Performance Today.
