Summer is my favorite season at the Palladium. Our rental and community business slows down and we get to present great bands and performers, many local, in the cool confines of the Side Door cabaret.
This is a perfect summer weekend for music lovers. With jazz (Zach Bartholomew and James Suggs), blues (Damon Fowler), 80s Indie rock (The Talking Heads), and Indian Raga music (Music for the Soul: Sitar & Tabla) on the bill.
We start Thursday night with Miami pianist (and professor) Zach Bartholomew and the Bay area’s favorite trumpeter, James Suggs, sharing the Side Door stage. The pair, along with a great band, will celebrate the music of Horace Silver.
Silver’s music combined the fiery virtuosity of bebop, the soulful feeling of the blues, and was served it up it with sophisticated (and catchy) arrangements and compositions. Zach will play Silver’s parts, while James will fill the role of trumpet legend Blue Mitchell. They’ll be joined by David Fernandez, saxophone; Alejandro Arenas, bass; Brandon Lee Lewis, drums.
Both Suggs and Alejandro Arenas are members of our Palladium Fellowship program, and Alejandro was recently named Jazz Musician of the Year by the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association.

On Friday night, Damon Fowler and his band will rock the house. When I decided to present blues at the Palladium, my first call was to Damon, who grew up in Brandon. He’s been selling out the Side Door ever since, while becoming one of the most popular blues acts in the country. He’s one-third of the super group, Southern Hospitality, and his trio is currently touring with Tab Benoit.

On Saturday night we’re bringing back Road To Nowhere, a band of local stars who recreate the music of The Talking Heads. Our two dance floors will be open for this show and I guarantee, they will be full. Row Jomah and his band never fail to make it a party.
And it doesn’t hurt that The Talking Heads are as popular as ever, thanks to the re-release of their concert film, Stop Making Sense.
I’ll be on the dance floor Saturday night. I hope you can join me. For tickets and more information, please follow this link.

Rounding out our weekend lineup, Sunday afternoon brings a transcendent musical journey rooted in Indian classical traditions. Ragas Live: Music for the Soul features Sitarist Hindol Deb and Tabla master Shankh Lahiri, blending the meditative beauty of ragas with intricate rhythms and vocal interpretations.
This intimate Sunday matinee invites you to unwind and be transported by the soul-stirring sounds of two world-class artists in the perfect listening space, the Side Door Cabaret. For tickets and more information, please follow this link.
