Home for the acclaimed St. Petersburg Opera, Palladium Chamber Players, and the Tampa Bay Symphony, The Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg presents culturally diverse live performances from both emerging and established artists.
On any given night at the Palladium the tunes may range anywhere from blues, jazz, acoustic, roots, punk, symphonic, operatic, rock, choral, comedy, dance, and much more. Theatergoers have the option to attend a show at the 850-seat main stage concert hall or to kick back in the 175-seat cabaret style Side Door for an intimate, candle-lit atmosphere.
Marketing Manager Debbie Carson describes the theater’s presence in the community as “a gem indeed- not just artistically, but also historically. The Palladium was first built in 1925 by the same builder as that of the iconic Flatiron Building in NYC, and the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., among others. The Palladium is walkable by thousands (and growing) who live and work in Downtown St. Petersburg, and a short drive for many more, whom we accommodate with great shows in our two free-of-charge parking lots at the theater.”
The animated downtown of St. Petersburg has been anchored by the Palladium’s façade for ninety years. Many of the Palladium’s shows come from the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg and Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, among numerous artists, promoters and agents.
The Palladium also presents and produces its own shows. Its annual Boogie Woogie Blues Piano Stomp! brings the world’s greatest Boogie Woogie Hall of Fame players to the stage to boogie down on two grand pianos for the Tampa Bay public. Florida Orchestra concertmaster Jeffrey Multer leads the Palladium Chamber Players series featuring “players whose home stages are NYC’s The Met, Juilliard, and Carnegie Hall,” says Carson.
Residents of the Tampa Bay region have held the Palladium as a cherished spot since the theater’s founding in 1998 by a group of well-known philanthropists. Since coming under the wing of St. Petersburg College in 2007 the Palladium’s reputation in the community has only grown. “We are located in the heart of St. Petersburg’s vibrant downtown, about four blocks from our magnificent waterfront, the iconic Vinoy Hotel, other venues, incredible dining, museums, and art of all stripes,” says Carson.
With its two distinct stages: Hough Hall and the cozy Side Door, the Palladium prides itself on assuring that stellar, diverse entertainment is available to all. Keeping prices low and performances fresh has helped the Palladium attain its status as a true gem of St. Pete’s, in fact Tampa Bay’s cultural scene.
