Ronny Elliott, writer and rocker, brings his hepcat search to the Side Door

My pal, the rock ‘n roll troubadour, Ronny Elliott takes the mic in the Palladium’s Side Door for a show that celebrates “the magnetic seabreeze that brings hepcats” to our humid hunk of Florida coastline.
Ronny didn’t have to ride the breeze, he was Tampa-born (he saw Elvis at the Armory) and as a kid I remember seeing him on stage at the rock cavern called Curtis Hixon in downtown, then in clubs with the country-rock band Duckbutter. We even got to share bills around Ybor City when the Niagara Fools (the band I was in) and The Wally Watson Band (Ronny’s band), would come together and close the night as Nikki and the Boys, Russia’s only touring punk rock band.
Ronny’s been writing songs and recording great albums all along.
He’ll be in the Side Door with Rebecca Pulley and others backing him up this Thursday. It’s a benefit for St. Pete Preservation.
The reserved seats are all gone, but there are GA tickets left. Follow this link for tix and info on the 4-19 show that starts at 7:30.
Now, how about a little something from Ronny’s blog:
Bored? I thought I was just lonely. It’s a 4/4 world and I’ve always lived in waltz time. I carry a pink paper wallet and I cut my own hair. I’m not good at it but I’m quick. If the world and I last much longer, I’ll be considered an intellectual, a sophisticate. Every morning I pull back the covers and step into a scene that mixes a Mad Max set and a Three Stooges scene. Somehow I always assumed that devolution would be a much slower process.
On a human scale, I can barely relate. I’m proud to be made up of the same stardust as Andre the Giant and Cleopatra. On the other hand, I’m ashamed of any connection to Michael Cohen.
This is not my century, boys, and neither was the last. So long to Oklahoma. Here’s to a life without training wheels.
