It was August of 2012 and the Republican Convention was coming to Tampa. And Gwen Ifill and PBS’s Washington Week was coming to the Palladium.
Gwen was a vibrant, smiling force that day both during the taping and at a post-taping reception in our Side Door. I spent 25 years in the news business, so when we chatted, we talked about politics and the changing nature of campaigns. And, even more importantly, how much she loved our historic theater.
Like the rest of her PBS fans – and folks who knew her from moderating debates – I was shocked and saddened to read about her untimely death at 61. In a world of journalism where class and professionalism are at a premium, she represented both. We will miss her.
I’ve attached a link to her obituary from Politico.
