projectALCHEMY, led by founder and executive artistic director, Alexander Jones, is joined by saxophonist Jeremy Carter, and his band, for an evening of music and dance. Jazz Theory explores the jazz music and dance as ritual, conjuring up sensations of the past and creating new memories to be unlocked in the future. Each song, each movement holds a history, and this event dives deeper into those curiosities of that power. Hear favorite tunes like Killing Me Softly, My Funny Valentine, and Jitterbug Waltz.
Jazz theory explores jazz music and dance creation focusing on the sense of ritual hidden in each practice. The truth is found while conjuring sensations of the past and creating new memories to unlock the future. Jazz theory aims to dive deeper into dance notation through the compositional style of live jazz music with the interest of recording how the technical and improvisational techniques of live music translates to similar techniques in dance. On a deeper level, this project explores and tracks the possessive effect music and movement have on a person, allowing moments of losing oneself in the art.
