We’re wrapping up our Side Door Summer series this Friday with a great double-bill – La Lucha with Jun Bustamante.
Jun sings with the jazzy guys of La Lucha – a trio that puts a jazz spin on pop hits, Brazilian tunes and standards. Jun is also a unique singer/songwriter on her own. So I’ve asked her to open the show with a set of her original material. If you haven’t left town for Labor Day, please join us Friday night in the Side Door.
It’s been a successful summer with lots of great performances and sold-out shows. I hope you were here for Betty Fox or the Mad Beach Band show – both sellouts – last weekend.
And our experiment with stand-up comedy has also drawn rave reviews – including my wife, who is a tough critic. Thanks to Ward Smith and all this comedy buddies who made Sunday into a very funny night. Side Door Stand-up will return soon.
Our renovation is going well thanks the the great team from Biltmore Construction. We’re doubling our bathroom space off the main lobby, sprucing up our back bathrooms, adding a powerful new air conditioning unit in the Side Door and painting and expanding our mainstage. At some point in October we should also have comfortable new seating in the Side Door – thanks to some very generous donors.
Come celebrate with us on Sept. 20 with the Bogus Pomp Orchestra, doing the music of Frank Zappa on our mainstage. And the Side Door will get cranking on Sept. 26 with the great Sean Chambers and then Damon Fowler returns on Oct. 4.
And we’ll be celebrating the Founders of the Palladium with a gala evening on Friday, Oct. 3. Tickets are $150 and going fast. For tickets call Marcus Brooks at 727 341-3128.
I’ll see you at the theater soon.
