I’ve got my tickets for Saturday night’s Seasonal Sparkle – St. Petersburg Opera’s now annual holiday show. Past shows have earned rave reviews from music lovers of all types – not just opera.
When that show closes with a matinee on Sunday, the Palladium staff will head off to enjoy the holidays with dreams of all the amazing 2014 shows dancing in our heads. Or something like that.
If you are still shopping, why not give the gift of Palladium music this holiday season. We’ve got something for everybody on your list:
* For blues lovers, January brings Selwyn Birchwood, Southern Hospitality and the great acoustic bluesman and storyteller Roy Book Binder to the Side Door in January.
* Our jazz fans can enjoy Nicki Parrott and Rossano Sportiello, back after their sold-out Side Door show last year. Get your tickets early for this one – they are going fast!
* Some fantastic chamber music – in our acoustically perfect Hough Hall – is also coming on strong in 2014. The young musicians of the Calidore String Quartet wowed our audiences last year. Since then, these 20-somethings have been signed by Opus 3, one of the top agencies for classical music. And in February, March and April, the Palladium Chamber Players return with three concerts. We’ve already sold almost 100 subscriptions for this great series, featuring Florida Orchestra Concermaster Jeff Multer, along with some of the world’s best chamber musicians. A season pass is only $96.
* Our Boogie Woogie Blues Piano Stomp – which sold-out last year – returns on Feb 22 with another great lineup of piano pounders. This time, Liz Pennock and Dr. Blues are joined by Los Angeles’ Rob Rio – who stole the show at our first Stomp – along with 24-year-old Chase Garrett and the legendary Bob Seeley, now 85-years-young. We’re offering reserved tickets for this show for the first time, so get your tickets early.
* We don’t do too many with tribute artists, but when we do, they are first-rate. On Feb. 28, we’re welcoming back Chris MacDonald and his Memories of Elvis show – which features a full-band and dancers. And Sweet Dreams, A Patsy Cline Tribute, starring CJ Harding with a full back-up band. Her show is Saturday, March 8.
There’s so much more including the Koresh Dance Company, coming from Philadelphia, for school shows and a major dance concert on Feb. 20.
* We’ve also got mainstage shows featuring the Wailers, Comedian Jim Breuer, Jazz great Branford Marsalis, Claire Lynch, the Battlefield Band and lots more.
All these shows on are sale now and make great holiday gifts or stocking stuffers. Check the website at our website or call our box office this week at 727 822-3590.
And I hope you have a happy and safe holiday season. I’ll see you in 2014 at the Palladium!
