Bob Night – a show we also call – All Bob Dylan, All Night Long – is returning this Saturday to the intimate Side Door Cabaret. The ringmaster is Palladium favorite Grant Peeples, the left-neck poet who created last year’s Bob Night and others around Florida.
Grant, by the way, is just back from Austin where he’s been recording tracks for a new album with his friend and producer, Gorf Morlix, who produced Grant’s third record, the great Okra and Ecclesiastes, which had a nice run on the Americana charts.
For this edition of Bob Night, Grant is tapping into some of our favorite local and Florida musicians. We’re excited to have Geri X appearing at the Palladium for the first time. She’s a 24-year-old Bulgarian-born singer-songwriter whose music shows influences of several genres including folk, psychedelic rock, Americana, and post-rock.
Ronny Elliott, who has been making music with great bands – and on his own – since the late 1960s, is also headlining. Ronny is based in Tampa, but he’s known internationally – a reputation built on a string of great solo albums. Ronny calls his music – Hillbilly Soul. Ronny is a regular at the Woody Guthrie Festival and he has shared stages with Van Morrison, the Allman Brothers, Wilco, Sly & The Family Stone, Michael Bloomfield, Canned Heat, Steve Miller, NRBQ, Patti Smith, Pete Seeger, Steve Earle and lots more. For this show he’ll be joined by two great sidemen – Steve Connelly and Spencer Hinkle.
As I was researching this piece I landed on Ronny’s great blog. Check it out at – http://ronnyelliott.blogspot.com/
The Sarah Mac Band, from Tallahassee, will highlight Act 2 of Bob Night. Sarah and the band were a hit at last year’s Bob Night. She and Grant recently collaborated on an album – Live At The Mockingbird.
The show will close with an all hands on deck version of You Ain’t Going Nowhere. Feel free to get your own verse together and Grant will likely drag you up on stage to sing it.
You’ll hear other Dylan classics and some obscure tunes that might be found on a bootleg album.
Tickets for Saturday night’s show are just $12. Visit www.mypalladium.org for tickets and more info or call our box office at 727 822-3590.
