St. Petersburg College President Dr. Tonjua Williams and President of Duke Energy Florida Melissa Seixas will discuss their journey to leadership at a March 21 presentation — A CEO Conversation: From Entry Level to Executive. The event will be moderated by Tampa Bay Times columnist Stephanie Hayes.

Dr. Tonjua Williams is St. Petersburg College’s seventh president. Under her leadership, SPC has attained national acclaim. She currently serves on many national, state, and local boards. She is an alumna of Leadership St. Petersburg (2001), Leadership Tampa Bay (2011), and Leadership Florida (2022) – Class 39. She has a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Barry University, a master’s degree in Counselor Education from the University of South Florida, and bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Humanities from Clearwater Christian College.
Melissa Seixas is Duke Energy’s state president in Florida. She is responsible for the financial performance of Duke Energy’s regulated utility in Florida. Seixas also manages state and local regulatory and government relations and community affairs. She has had a 34-year career with electric power in Florida. Starting in 1986, Seixas joined Florida Power (later to become Progress Energy and then Duke Energy) in distribution engineering. She then served as vice president of government and community relations before her current position. Seixas holds a bachelor’s degree in American history from Eckerd College and a master’s degree in American history from the University of South Florida. Her executive training includes a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) certification from Johns Hopkins University and programs with the Edison Electric Institute and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
Stephanie Hayes is a columnist at the Tampa Bay Times. Her column covers “the proverbial ‘lighter side of life’ and giving side-eye to Florida.” She started her column in 2021, and before becoming a columnist, Hayes was an editor who oversaw arts and culture coverage. She’s also covered local governments, higher education, nightlife, obituaries, and performing arts in her career. Hayes is a graduate of the University of South Florida.
