Heart attack sidelines Donald Harrison; his show is now postponed

I was just one of the jazz fans excited about Donald Harrison and his band visiting the Side Door this coming Thursday.

With a week of sales still ahead, over 100 tickets were already sold, including all our reserved seats. It was going to be a thrilling night of music, with an NEA Jazz Master and a New Orleans legend.

Sadly, Harrison suffered a heart attack while performing in Hawaii last weekend and all three of his stops in Florida, including the Palladium show, have been postponed.

If his health permits, we expect to have the show rescheduled for early 2024. Stay tuned for details.

In the meantime, the Palladium box office will be working on refunds.

And we all wish Donald Harrison a speedy recovery.

New Orleans TV station, WGNO, reported on Harrison’s condition. That story appears below:

Renowned jazz saxophonist Donald Harrison recovering following heart attack

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Renowned New Orleans jazz saxophonist and Mardi Gras Indian Chief Donald Harrison Jr. is recovering in a hospital after suffering a medical emergency in Hawaii Sunday, June 4.

Harrison reportedly suffered a heart attack Saturday, June 3 while in Hawaii performing at The Big Island Jazz and Blues Festival.

Harrison posted an update on his Facebook page stating that he has since had a procedure to unblock a main artery and is currently under observation.

“I had the procedure, and it seems to be a success. One of the main arteries in my heart was blocked so this could have a death blow. Dr. Lasseter and his great team were synchronized to a high level and got me through this ordeal. They are observing me now. I have to carry my “I had a heart attack” card everywhere now.

Pray for me. I was in critical condition but now I am stable.”
