If you want to see the St. Petersburg Opera Company production of The Magic Flute, you don’t have time to wait!
The Sunday matinee is sold out and only a handful of tickets remain for tonight’s opening night performance. Palladium Box Office Manager Megan Byrne told me that Tuesday’s show will likely sell-out by the 7:30 p.m. showtime.
So please don’t hesitate if you want to be in the audience for this wonderful and whimsical Mozart opera.
This fairy tale with mythological overtones features the return of Lara Lynn McGill, who starred in last year’s The Tales of Hoffmann, in the leading role of Pamina. Up-and-coming coloratura soprano Kelli Butler plays the Queen of the Night.
The Magic Flute is stocked with Masonic symbolism and numerology, as both Mozart and Austrian actor and theater producer Emanuel Schikaneder, who wrote the libretto, were Freemasons. It opens with three women who serve the Queen rescuing prince Tamino. Later, three spirit boys guide the prince to a temple of a mysterious brotherhood with three doors.
