New York Times jazz listings tell the story – the Palladium’s musical lineup is worthy of the best jazz clubs in America

Our jazz fans who moved here from bigger cities say the Palladium is their favorite jazz venue – and our nightclub, the Side Door, reminds them of their favorite jazz clubs in New York, Chicago or wherever their called home.

 

And they know our musicians are the best in the business.  And if you don’t believe that, check out this week’s jazz listings in the New York Times. The first is for Harry Allen’s show at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s – Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola. Harry is a regular here. He’ll be playing with Nate Najar at his big 10th anniversary Christmas show this December and he’ll be back in the spring for a show of Judy Garland songs featuring vocals by Rebecca Kilgore. And his band features three  other  Palladium favorites – drummer and vibraphonist Chuck Redd, bassist Nicki Parrott and pianist Ehud Asherie.

Chuck will be here in September. Nicki in Janaury and Ehud will be on Harry’s Judy Garland gig this spring.

Harry Allen and Friends (Thursday):“For George, Cole and Duke” is the new album by Mr. Allen, a tenor saxophonist with a firm footing in the tradition. (Those first names refer to songbook composers: Gershwin, Porter, Ellington.) Celebrating the album’s release, Mr. Allen reconvenes its cast: the pianist Ehud Asherie, the bassist and vocalist Nicki Parrott, the drummer and vibraphonist Chuck Redd and the percussionist Little Johnny Rivero. Next up is Stacey Kent, who will be appearing next Wednesday at our place. She’s also a longtime friend and collaborator of our own Nate Najar. Nate hopped up to New York to sit in with Stacey on Tuesday at Birdland, then flew back this morning for his own weekly gigs. Stacey Kent (Tuesday through July 25): An American-born jazz singer whose life and career have taken root in Europe, Ms. Kent has a delicate-but-determined style, girded by her multilingual poise. She appears, as usual, with her husband, the saxophonist Jim Tomlinson. (And Tuesday night’s special guest – Nate Najar!)
