Looking over the next week at the Palladium, I realized that our list of upcoming shows is a perfect microcosm of what the Palladium is all about – amazing talent, local connections, and one-of-a-kind shows.
Let’s start with Friday night and Southern Hospitality. This blues super-group features our own home-grown guitar star, Damon Fowler, along with piano master Victor Wainwright and J.P. Soars, who is also a world-class blues guitarist. All three are stars in their own right. And Victor was the headliner of our Boogie Woogie Stomp last year and is back to kick off our Tampa Bay Blues Fest weekend in April. We’ve built a strong relationship with this band. And their fans love seeing them at the Palladium.
Victor’s band, the Wildroots, opens the show.
With the weekend comes a world-class community show that’s absolutely free. The show is the Sounds of the Civil Rights Movement: The Power of Song. It features among the large cast, September and Ivan Penn, great local talents who recently relocated to Los Angeles. The shows on Sunday and Monday are the official kick-off of St. Petersburg’s Martin Luther King Week celebrations. Free tickets are available at our box office.
On Tuesday, Jan. 12, we welcome the premier Frank Sinatra tribute artist in the country, Steven Maglio, to our mainstage. The night before our show, Maglio is headling at Friar’s Club tribute to Sinatra at the Pierre Hotel. Sharing the stage with Steven that night will be Larry King, Wayne Newton, Tony Danza, Steve Tyrell, and Dionne Warwick.
The next night, you can see Maglio in our intimate Hough Hall with his full band. (And for a fraction of the cost of the Friar’s Club show!) This is a MUST-SEE show.
The next night – Wednesday, Jan. 13 – our fabulous Palladium Chamber Players return for their second of four concerts. Built around our own Florida Orchestra Concertmaster Jeffrey Multer, this group of New York-based chamber musicians have won consistent “Best of the Bay” awards and raves from local critics and audiences.
We follow that with a night of New York City style jazz in the Side Door, with Nicki Parrott, Rossano Sportiello and Eddie Metz. All three have a long relationship with the Palladium and record for Arbors Records in Clearwater. This show sells out each year, so get your tickets early.
Friday (1-15), the Palladium turns into a major concert venue, as Scott Stapp, former lead singer of the multi-platinum band, Creed. The band sold nearly 50 million albums and put 11 songs at No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts. This show is almost sold out.
Then, Saturday (1-16), Tampa Bay’s award-winning jazz band, La Lucha, returns with a raucous trip to the 1980s. La Lucha Plays The ’80s – features rowdy jazz arrangements of ’80s hits by Madonna, Prince, Billy Joel, Hall & Oats and more. The show also features vocalist Jun Bustamante and singer-violinist Rebecca Zapen. They will dress for the occasion and you should too.
After that show, I’m going home to rest. Hope to see you at at least one – or all – of these unique Palladium shows! For tickets and information visit our box office in person, call 727-822-3590, or follow this link to our website.
